CVH Head Choice

I have a Ford 1600 CVH with the 88SM6090 Hemi Head on it. I have just bought a skimmed Lean Burn head because it has a Kent 22 cam in it. But I have some questions which I hope someone out here can answer.

1) Could I bolt the lean burn head straight onto the block I have (assuming I fit new gaskets obviously)? 2) Given that a standard lean burn head produces slightly (about 6HP) less power as standard than the hemi, will the fact that it is skimmed make up for that and give me more power than I would get by simply swapping the camshaft into my original hemi head?

Thanks

Will

Thanks

What a refreshing change for this group..... Someone who speaks "engine".

I can't help much with ford engines, but i note the compression ratio is quite high. This obviously is in the same league as the lean burning bmw 525e of old, which also ran 11.0:1 compression.

Do ford run high gear ratios with the lean burn engine?? (100mph at 3000rpm??)

Not as a rule for good fuel economy- the CVH just didnt do that, though my old 1.4 Escort was geared to do 90 at 3100rpm- which I think is pretty high for a 1.4. Max speed was achieved in 4th mind.

Hmmmm?? For some reason the high compression 2.7 litre eta engine fitted to the only economy bmw ever made sat behind very high gear ratios. If i remember correctly, my old eta would do 100mph all day at 3000rpm ... whilst it redlined like a diesel at 4500rpm. It was also the only 6 cylinder bmw engine you could turn with one hand on the crank pulley (with plugs out obviously). Something to do with having loose fitting skirtless pistons, 4 bearings on the cam instead of seven and valve springs you can squeeze between finger and thumb .... all in the aid of economy!!

Why, is this an engine maintenance group ? Or a specific group for tuning engines ?

Strange, I can't seem to see a sign on the door that says anything like that...

lol

Nice irony.
