Remote door popping kit

Dose anyone know where I can get a door popper kit (you know the type or thing solenoids, sprung loaded pins to push the door open and a remote to operate the kit) from in the UK? I can find plenty of kits in the US (like this one

) but I'm struggling to find one overhere.

eBay.

It's no problem buying from the US if you can't find a UK seller.

Maplin YD 77 is a complete central locking kit for 30 quid - operated by the key. To convert to remote operation you'll need the Keyless entry system UN 21 at 50 quid - or you could use other alarm systems.

Clifford do the solenoids IIRC, my mate welded up his door handles and has remote operated pop open doors.. very cool

Ah never considered ebay, odd with the amount I spend on there, will go have a look.

Well I've got mirrors goming from Cannada so I could do that as well.

Thanks.

I'll look into converting on of those kits. Thanks.

Just another thought. Is the vehicle you want to convert available with central locking? It might be less hassle to buy the locks with motors from a scrappie and fit those - making up your own loom. I'd say physically fitting the kit motors to the locks would be the major part of the job, given how fiddly it is to work inside most car doors.

Err no, it's rather older than when CL became widely used, besides the handles have been welded over now.

How do you get in if the battery is completely dead?

I think people who de-handle leave their boot locks in place, or move them behind the number plate.

That or have an auxillary battery for the locking system.

In article , ians snipped-for-privacy@yEEEhoo.com spouted forth into uk.rec.cars.modifications...

Best way is a set of battery connector points in a small box water proof box {hidden away inside the wheel arch, or sideskirts if fitted) so you just pop open the box, connect a reserve battery and pop the door open.

I'm going to have a release for the engine compartment so I can get direct to the battery, may even put in a locked manual override back there. You can also use battery terminals that mount under the car (used on beetles and alike where the battery is in the car).

Real handy at 1 in the morning in the rain in a car park. ;-)

I'll stick with the smashy smashy. :-)

What are the chances of the battery being dead? Aslong as you don't leave lights etc on, and the battery and charing gear isnt knackered theres not much chance of it happening.. and yea smash the window is the answer, or have two wires hidden under the wheel arch that you connect to another batter.. or a way of opening the bonnet to get to change the battery...

As a vw owner I think I've seen similar solenoid kit from Big Boys Toys

for £24.50 & also from Volksbits

for £29.99.

I picked one up from a show a couple of years back for about £25 when I de-locked the rear hatch on my Mk2 - worked well after a bit of fiddling to get it all mounted up.

Good luck! Mike

Also try Britannia Hydraulics 0161 681 2391 - They sell door solenoids, hydraulic suspension kits, tonneau covers, wheels etc for custom/hotrod type cars

I remember I had quite a search trying to find these type of instantaneous pull solenoids. Most aftermarket central locking kits use a motor & geared rack actuators that can push or pull depending on polarity, rather than the magnet based type that give a short sharp tug when activated (even though they are both confusingly referred to as solenoids)!

Thanks I'll try giving them a ring, though I am trying to stay away from people selling hydraulic suspension as it's already running over budget.

Why would your battery be completely dead ?

If that's the case, then your car is broken, and you need to get it fixed !

How do you get into a normal car, if the key is broken ?

If you bounced off the rear quarter of a volvo and ended up on the roof with petrol dripping onto the hard shoulder, the battery might well be dead.

Might be asking a lot for a passing rescuer to find the hidden wiring while the burning smells get more intense...
