That's a bit more than the last time I drove to Norwich, roughly 60mph with overtaking there, driving around norwich a bit then the same on the way back - £30 and 350 miles or so. It's around 38mpg or so. Doing an average journey of 6 miles and caning it all the way might be what the problem is. If I drove to college up the M1 instead of one of my favourite roads, I'd probably be doing rather better.

This was a courtesy car, and a 1.1i, you work out how much revvin it got :)

I dream of fuel consumption like that in my car!!

Erm; might be worth a quick rolling road run in that case just to see what yer fuelling is like under load; 15mpg is on the heavy side for a Ti (on public roads at least), 20 acceptable if you're caning it but to be getting 15mpg I'd expect something is wrong somewhere.

Its not swallowed any rags/small furry animals via the air intake recently? Not crunched the exhuast downpipe on a hump? It is warming up okay and idling at 875rpm when hot?

Grumpy from a cold start, and unfortunately most of my driving is short journeys. By the time the car is starting to warm up, I'm already at work. That's the main factor, I suspect. It increases to anywhere between 65 to 75 miles out of a tenner on long journeys (e.g. motorway).

Although like you, this rises dramatically on a run. Last motorway journey I did, steady 80mph all the way, netted me 400 miles from the same £40 !

No, but they can check your emissions, and hence tell if you're running overly rich when warm or cold (or both).

It's gotta be worth a shot for £40 or so. If they all come up fine, then you know it's deffo your driving and/or the short journeys :)
