From what I see around, mostly VWs, Fords, Opel and such, preferrably cheap :) BMW are also very popular, most of them are 10+ years old. For mor or less accurate assessment see personal ads cars for sale site - htp://cars.auto.ru - the site itself is in Russian, but car makes/models are in English. Whichever car has the most for sale/wanted ads is the popular one.

Quite possibly. She's very mechanically minded, am planning on stopping by Moscow when I'm in the area (February 2005, off to the Arctic, as you do).

Excellent. Was thinking along the lines of a SAAB 900i (a proper C900) or a Carlton / Senator (Opel Omega). Are those prices dollars or roubles? Will I be able to get rid of a right hand drive car there?

What about if the price was right :P? The prices there look well above UK second hand car prices. The other option of course would be to find some japanese saloon to do the drive in. Do many RHD japs get as far west as Moscow? I've read that they mostly have RHD Japanese cars in Vladivostock but I'm not sure driving across the middle of Russia is that good an idea.
