Got another question..

In article , snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com spouted forth into uk.rec.cars.modifications...

Thats a tricky one.

Can't think what that might be other than if you've had the rear seat flat, and either it isn't clipped back right, or the rear belt is trapped behind it and knocking on the boot trim inside.

Or maybe the CD changer is loose, and moving?

Checked all those - released the seat and slammed it back into place, put tape round the door catch, grabbed a few things and tried rattling them, rocked the rear on the suspension - all no obvious effect. I'll see what the experts find. Only thing I thought was possibly the seat belt ratchet mechanism or something in the rear door related to either the lock or window mechanism but it's their problem now. Even considered it could be the nearside brace bar not completely and securely attached. Very definitely the nearside rear quarter somewhere. I'll want to know what it was and what exactly they did to sort it though.

Haven't checked that, can't imagine it's that but who knows - i'll look a bit of a prat if it is, the sound seems very definitely in the car (as opposed to the boot) I'll post the results, might help someone else sometime.

It's what?

I think you mean 'warranty' ;-)

Still don't know what one of those is, though.... I always buy on trade terms to save paying the wad for a warranty.

All that makes sense, except the Peugeot 305 has a plastic tank! Still, I'd imagine that an 18-year-old tank, even if it was plastic, is gonna have quite a bit of crap (for want of a better word) in the bottom of it. Yes, it was a bit of an oversight on my part to let it run out of fuel - I always meant to drive to a petrol station but it never happened. Of course, condensation isn't going to help either, I'm sure that the petrol must have become contaminated with water (in fact I thought I saw a tiny amount in the fuel I collected off from the fuel rail - plus the fuel didn't look exactly 'clean'). Would water by itself be enough to block up an injector?

The big fuel injection filter, which I bought new approx. 2 years ago, sits high up in the engine bay only 20-30cms away from the fuel rail, connected by a standard fuel hose. I supposed that this would surely eliminate a lot of dirt, but if a great deal had entered the fuel line underneath the car, maybe some of the smaller stuff would have got through.

Still, I considered that maybe if it's only really tiny bits of dirt, then running the injectors open for a period of time rather than the usual short burst, might be enough to clear it. I guess it's a bit dodgy, but right now my main concern is simply getting the car moving. It's parked in my work's car park, which isn't exactly a good place to work on it (too dark at night).

Yeah yeah :)

I love my warranty :) Went in a couple of days after buying it, cos there was a scratch on the glass of the passenger side wing mirror. They just slapped a new one straight on, cos it was there when i bought the car, just didn't notice till i got home. It was cool :)

Interesting thought, but the engine turns over just fine on the starter with no signs of life... would it really make much difference if I tow started it?

Whereas I look at my car and go:

'there's a scratch, there's another one.... there's a scratch, there's another one'

However, I don't give a toss.

Never had a car go massively wrong (well, not without me getting VFM out of it) so I like my large discounts for trade terms :-)
