Let's face it, 150bhp from a N/A 8 valve 2lt is pretty good going.
OK- the 16v in the GTV didn't improve on that - and the 2nd set of plugs was more to do with heritage than anything else. But you've got to give credit to the Alfa engineers for the older lumps.
And of course, the noise - although the BMW 2.0 flat six sounds great, too, and the VTECs have a certain charm about their sound (if you like that sort of thing).
D> Err, no. BMW used a 150 PS two litre donk for some time. Chrysler's D> Neon RT produces 150 PS from a 2.0 litre. The PSA Group have a number of D> 2.0 litre engines that produce over 150 PS. The Escort RS2000 produced D> 150 PS from two litres, the ST170 produces 168 PS from two litres.
How many of them were 8v? BMW have very little torque below 4500 rpm unlike Alfas
- I drove both, my mates have them. And BMW is a 24 valve inline 6 (4 valves per cylinder).
D> There are numerous Honda VTEC donks producing way more than 150 PS from D> engines somewhat smaller. The 1.8 VVC K-series produces over 150 PS. D> Similarily, some Toyota VVTi donks, too.
D> Numerous Clios produce 150 PS or more from 2.0 litres, or less.
D> Several Vauxhall 2.0 16v donks produced 150 PS.
16v generally don't have low end, 8v do.
D> And, finally, the VW 2.0 16v donk, as used in the mark three Golf GTi 16v D> and Seat Ibiza, produced 150 PS.
ABF is a great engine - I'm looking for a Mk3 Golf with one, but still it's 16v.
D> So, not that special after all.
See above.
