My mate has had his V8 Soarer for about a month and wants to get rid of it coz of its lack of 'sportiness'. Once you get over the novelty of all the toys, its just a luxobarge, which he's now discovered and is trying to find something else to replace it. I guess it depends on what you want from a car, but i guess the Supra has a bit more of a "racer's edge" to it!

That's the one. My neighbour's was a 2.8 but they later did them in a 3.0.

It's on the shelf, just above the washing machine. No, left a bit.

It tastes funny.

Whassat then? Some sort of VAG 1.9TDI PD type engine, or do I remember rightly that you have a Fiesta TDCI?

VW TDi, wouldn't be seen dead in a ford (well not any of the ones you can get officially over here). I should be getting 55+ but I have a tendency to drive it a bit hard for that on a regular basis. (You know you are going to quick when you are overtaking mercs on the motorway, something I don't do in my quicker cars)

After driving the Celica, I want the Saab back. Maybe Luxobarge with some go is what I really need, rather than sporty racer.

I'm keeping the Celica for a while yet (like I said about 2 years), but maybe it is either time to go back to a Saab, or get a Merc/Lexus. An older SL500 would be nice, the old anglular battle tanks are cool, or a Soarer, smooth, quick comfy.

The Soarers are definately that. He's been used to powersliding 325s and hammering along in a 200SX, which the Soarer doesnt really do. I think he's realised he doesnt want to grow up just yet!

I want a V8 Soarer, but I hate the looks. I rather like luxobarges, especially when the underpinnings are good - I used to fling my Senator around at insane speeds.

Did they? As far as I know the MA60 Supra is 2.8 5M-GE, then the

7M-GE/GTE came out with the 86.5 "Mk III" Supra. Some owners have transplanted the 6M Crown 3.0 into them, but they only came with the 2.8 (GA60s existed, with the 1G 2.0 engine).

Not that I know anything about Supras, mind.

Did a front flip with my truck and landed it today - was pretty damn cool :)

Mkay, why would I want a Supra more than a GTR? I always thought I wanted a GTR but I guess I could be wrong... :)

I'm 36. Probably about time I either took a second mortgage and went all out and bought a 911, or settled for something smooth and quick and comfy instead of buzzy and nippy and point to point.

As the owner of a 340bhp luxobarge I'd recommend them. :)

You don't have to sacrifice much go or B-road blasting ability either.

A W124 300-24/320CE or 500 E would probably keep you happy but I suspect the Soarer is the only Lexus that has grunt without being too barge like. I have a feeling that you might get on with a Toyota Altezza RS200 tho' - 210bhp 4-cyl BEAMS motor in IS200 body: potter at IS200 levels of performance or rev its nuts off at will...

I'd suggest looking at BMWs and especially ALPINAs with an open mind too

- the E39 chassis is *good*, the E38 far from shabby.

560s are much quicker than 500s, SECs probably easier to live with than SLs...

Soarers look much better in the flesh (except the gold ones)

I guess I just like driving sideways. GTRs have a really harsh ride. There is gobs more low down torque in the Supra and you can drive it fast with very little effort. I also found the interior in the Supra a lot nicer. The only thing wrong with the Supra is that for a big car there is f*ck all room to carry anything in it.

Talking of luxbarges, Rich, you wouldn't fancy my E32 730i for £500 would ya (tax til end jan 06, MOT til sept 05) ??

I want barge performance and comfort, with out necessarily the barge like dimensions. I do like the RS200, especially the Fensport HKS supercharged one. That was was really nice.

I quite like BMWs, especially Alpinas over Msport models. But the missus hates them, and I'm banned from owning one on those grounds.

The SL would be if I decide to go convertable. Haven't owned one yet, so I should at some time. Maybe even a Beemer Zcar if I can sneak it past the missus.

Do they exist in the UK ?

I've never read a single preview/roadtest/anything that I can remember !

Dunno, just read somewhere that the '86 had the 3.0 if you asked Toyota. IANAE on Supras...
