I reckon this would be perfect for moving house

And I would get the money back easy after I'm finished with it if I don't like it.

5 doors look so much better than 3 doors, especially in Vx, Merc and Volvo.

Get it. A good idea for a change, and very you. Though it'll probably go for best part of £2k, so if you're prepared for that, go for it.

Talking of Carltons, a while back I saw a really clean Carlton Limo on ebay that I put up a link to on facebook - a mate of MikeP's commented "who'd pay to hire out something that old?" - my reply was something like "Doesn't bother me, I'd use it as a runabout."

I enjoyed the 2.6 Carlton I had. It was a good car but had started to rot slightly. Mine had been 2/3 of the way to the moon. I bought it for throwaway money (sub £400) and sold it for not much less.

On the subject of moving, I can usually wangle free use of a Van for a weekend these days, and if I can't there is a much smaller hassle factor and minimal expense involved in hiring one for a day or 2.

However, I'm pretty boring and don't like drawing too much attention to myself.

JPGs of you and a mate moving in in full undertaker regalia would be pretty amusing though.

"has a private plate (worth £££'s and IS transferable)!!! 'RJI 2478'"

Yep, £3 is about what that plate's worth. On a good day.

Can you guess who I might sell it on to. Looking at van hire prices, first there will be the weekend move, then=20 the cost of each time I find an interesting peice of interior tat=20 (chesterfields/iron bed/roll top desk/big old dark wood double=20 wardrobe/genuine Crapper crapper and bath) on the shiney bay, but won't=20 deliver/ship, I reckon if I spend less than =A31k, 10-15 pickups will save= =20 me van hire completly.

I'm going to come out of this with not a lot of furniture as it won't=20 suit my plans, but a telly, a washing machine and a dyson, so I'm going=20 to be collecting a lot of stuff in the first couple of months.

Don't forget that that grand needs to include insurance, tax, MOT, any maintenance...

Yes but it's a plate that says more about you than cash ever can.

That LPG tank does an excellent job of screwing up one of the main points of having a car like that...

LPG ftters seem to think that such an installation is acceptable. It was suggested by one for my Exploder and he couldn't seem to understand why I would insist on having an underslung tank. I've been looking for a replacement for the Exploder recently and I've given up looking at LPG converted SUVs because the majority have a tank positioned somewhere stupid. It seems common to install one just inside the tailgate. The worst possible location I reckon, makes the entire loadbed useless.

Oh sure, but I think I can add a second, limited mileage vehicle onto my=20 policy for very little money as it will essentially be a hobby vehicle,=20 not a daily. Or I'll just see if the likes of Flux can do me anything=20 for it as it will be just a hobby vehicle.

Granny V6 without the gas, and in a proper colour:

Seen that being relisted a few times. I prefer 5 doors though which big expensive american, one or two mainly Irish Volvos, Binz Mercs, or that Carlton. The nicest one I've seen though is the 4 door Zephyr/Zodiac Mk4 that was in Lesbian Vampire Killers.

Carlton will do a fair bit less mpg than a Van under almost any circumstances.

I'd go for that. It epitomises tastelessness.

Shame. Currently I'm considering a 110inch Santana clone of the Series III LWB Safari. Dirt cheap and better built than the Land Rover. One of those as a hearse would be mildly amusing.

Interesting. Not seen those before. Going to point that link out to my dad, they're after somxe 4x4 thing for the farm out in Greece. I'm scouring ebay for a LPG Jeep type thing at the momemt for myself.

I reckon an XM would make a good hearse. Surely that's been done in France though.

There already several specialist long wheel base Landrover hearses about.

Same as the sidecar ones, someone must have wanted one, then others have gone for it.

A good buy I think. It's got the Iveco 2.8 common rail diseasel from the Pug/Fiat Ducato, the technology is simple, many parts are from a Passat. The parabolic leaf springs are supposedly as good as the coils fitted to later Defenders. It's basic, but not that basic since it has aircon which is essential in Greece and Italy. Since it's Spanish there are LHD's available. The load bed is massive and it can carry 900kg payloads and tow 3.5tonnes.

There was a guy at one of the Chelsea cruises I went to earlier this year who was an undertaker from Ramsgate, he had a early 50's Chevy P/U in bright red with a shiny teak bed, he was planning on starting to offer that for funerals.
