Is an Alfa 156 a really bad idea?

It just goes straight on flat spotting the fronts?

What was the cause of the a/c issue in the end?

Kinda yea, grip overcoming power? Bbut if I do it with a small run up the back end flicks round nicely - but only till about a 270 - where it just bogs down heh. I confess I haven't tried a full throttle, clutch drop on full lock attempt hehe - I didn't wanna break it :-)

Allegedly mine had a recall done for a similar problem. When using the A/C at idle the revs would go up and down ~500rpm. I think it was a software reprogram that cured it.

No idea.

When the compressor kicks in, the revs drop then spike. It's always done this. We just pull the a/c relay in for the MOT now.

We did have leaky a/c the year before last, but that was a simple corroded pipe. It's ice-cold these days. Better than the a/c in the Passat.

Usually there is an idle up function that is supposed to do that. AC kicks in, more load, engine idles up to compensate. Probably only=20 about 2-300 revs. The Octavia did it. The 9000 does it and both the=20 Toyotas do it. The answer for the test was, as the rules dictate, run the emissions=20 with heaters/fans/ACC off. Surely there is an off setting even with=20 proper climate.

That's what ours was doing - compressor kicks in, revs drop, then the ECU hikes the revs to compensate.

However, this caused a spike in the emissions, plus you *have* to be running a steady idle / fast idle for the test.

I'm pretty sure there's no way to completely turn off the climate in a

156 without pulling the relay.

Try the button marked 'OFF' :-) ?

works in the BM with the TC off but you need to build the revs and have enough room for the swing too overwise it gets very brown pants near the kerbs :) only tried it once in a tight gravel car park at a pub and left quickly after i pretty much pebble dashed every car in the car park! whoops

There isn't one, as such.

I seem to recall some combination of buttons and turning the ignition key will turn it properly off, but it's more hassle than pulling the relay once a year.

You have a heavy lump up front there, Dan carries his behind him.

yeah well there is that small detail. my lump is probably heavier, actually maybe not is dans V6 alloy?

Yup, surely there's at least a 50% chance you'll end up pointing roughly the right way?

I did this in a quiet seaside town a couple of weeks ago - got all sorts of stares, pointing and shaking of heads...

Was it as spectacular as the exits of Conor and yourself, one after the other, at Wetwang?
