Lancia Delta

Are we bothered that we don't get it in this country?

Another pic from the weekend, the current model Delta.

4,520 mm (178 in)Width 1,797 mm (70.7 in)Height 1,499 mm (59.0 in)It's huge, 5" taller than the original Delta. What F'in idiot thought up the name 1.8 Di Turbojet for a Petrol engine? That "D" means it's going to get fed Diesel quite often by new owners, just like the Vauxhall CD's got it. Someone go yell at the motor trade "D" stands for Diesel you dummies.

the petrol turbo engines are crap, the "ECO" tuning has gone toofar. They must have fitted diddy little turbos to make torque atDiesel like rpm, so like a Diesel they run out of puff at 5K, a petrolturbo should have peak torque at 4K and peak power at 6.5-7K. Then itwill have a proper power band with proper power and make the car fly. Due to scrappage schemes all over Europe people are buying small cars with petrol engines, so Diesels market share has reduced.

Not to mention all the pilots who will fill it with JetA-1.

I don't think that's entirely down to scrappage. I know in Czech all diesel sold has to contain a percentage of Biodiesel (Cz Government concession to the EcoMental brigade), which tends to f*ck pumps an injectors on most common rail things.

Another factor is diesel fuel waxing in winter. If it's -15 deg C out and the car won't start, the car isn't much use. Manufacturers charging a few hundred quid for fuel heaters etc doesn't really help.

So the intelligent people out there are going back to petrol, and good on 'em ;-)

No. No, I am not upset by the absence of that from our roads. Now if we can just convince people to stop buying Mitos, scrap Ssangyongs and do away with Daewoos, the aesthetic component of driving will be much improved.

Yikes. You are a man of, um, unconventional tastes. I respect that. Please don't be offended if I don't shake hands.

Clearly, it's so much more hideous and ill-proportioned than an X6 or A5 Sportback or Focus folding tin-top or any of a squillion other vile abortions from "cool" makers...

I have to admit, I have warmed to the A5. I didn't like it at all at first but the proportions don't seem as wrong as they did when it came out. I think it would work better if it was the size of an MX-5, A5s are HUGE and they're actually quite difficult to get in and out of.

Over the last couple of years I have seen a lot of foreign Lancias tootling about in the highlands over the summer. Mostly dutch, none of them have ever looked right.
