Muscle cars

A friends dad is in the market for a muscle car. Basically he isn't to worried about image, what he wants is a good upgrade path, readily available spares.

Not sure on the budget because I think he wants a project... he mentioned the figure £5000, less is better but more won't be much of a problem I think.

You'd get a decent SD1 Vitesse for that. Pretty fast already, and you can get a lot more power easily. Pretty well all mechanical, electrical and body parts are no problem to get new or secondhand. Good interior trim may be. Classic insurance also readily available.

Ford Capri 2.8i Special - the British Muscle Car.

Decent examples around £2-£3k. Ones that need a little bodywork (usually front wings) for about £800-£1000. Don't waste money on a "Brooklands" as they're just a Special with BRG paint and a black leather interior but cost around £3k for a shed and stupid money for a minter.

You need 8 cylinders for a muscle car. ;-)

Loads less than 200 hp, and only 6 cylinders a "muscle" car????!!

Not really a muscle car though. Think of less comfort and more brutality. Speaking of which we got an offer on our apartment today so my Charger dreams are slowly becoming reality. I imagine it's about 8 weeks away. I've already got four litres of GMH flat black paint ready in the garage.

They're hardly comfortable and a 4.6 will drop straight in. ;-)

muscle car to me normally has to be yank, heavy as f*ck but with a loud V8 that makes 350-400bhp standard and that can cruise at 80mph at 1000rpm :)

You must be joking? TP Vitesse 220 bhp. Even the ordinary one 190. But muscle cars are about torque...

THe carbed MK1's were around 135BHP.

bleh!? A v8 knocking out 135bhp.... that is horrendous!

If the carbed mk1 was a non v8 in shouldn't even be mentioned.

Yeah; Red Letter Days were the primary supplier for my emplyer's 10 year service awards. There was a recent communication saying that all Red Letter Day stuff was no longer valid. I've worked for them for 9 years so they've got 12 months to sort something out lol...

To be fair, Remus, this was quite a long time before you were even a twinkle in your father's eye.

SD1s 155 Early P6 10.5 to one compression ones were 178bhp

But thats not the point of the rover V8 its because its light, simple, and can stand being leant on a lot! Kit cars and tuned ones, and big bore versions are still light and make loadsa power.

But it takes a big block to make a muscke car. A rover is not it.
