Where abouts in Scotland is it? I've tried googling for it but not got a definitive answer. If it's in Fife, I may come along for a look. Stuart

I won the navigation trophy at the local car club a long time ago, first season we did them. First I knew of it was when my mate got called up to collect his trophy for driver at the club's dinner dance and then my name got called out too. Didn't have a clue how, we were just doing them for fun.

Get a driver who knows the local lanes, mine was a BT linesman.

This about the BEST guide to road rallying there is.

One word of caution...it gets addictive!! We started out doing the occasional 12-car (small, local club rallies) and now four years later we're doing Enduro events (as close as you can get to stage rallying without actually going stage rallying) and 150 - 200 mile major events every few weeks!!

For a newbie, the only kit you need is something to light the map "on the move" without distracting the driver, if you've got one a head torch is fine, or next up is one of those illuminated magnifying glasses - the "trade" name is Potti :-))

You'll need a pen and clip board because your time sheet will need to be signed at each time control. If you're not getting a pre plotted map, I would get a very soft rubber and three or four 2B pencils (or a couple of propelling pencils). It is worth tying one somewhere so it can still reach the map but doesn't get dropped!!
