3 spoke alloys are "untrendy"?? Why didn't someone on here tell me before I picked up 2 sets from ebay?

You mean you didn't know? What were you gonna do with 2 sets of 3 spoke alloys anyway?

Just say you were doing a service to humanity or something. Better to be a martyr in any case.

One set for winter use and a set polished for shows. I needed somthing to go with the rest of the retro look the car will hopfuly have.

I'll give that a go.

Here we go, Douglas, crown prince of car mods: (perhaps not)

I think 3 spoke alloys have a time and a place. There was a sort of 3 spoke design specified on some novas or astras (GSi/GTE?) that actually went pretty well with it. Some ford probe's came with them too, different design, bulbous and swirly but IMHO these looked OK too, simply because they go with the lines of the car and are a product of an era in car design.

I am of the belief that you can however make a cavalier or fiesta look very, very, very wrong with these kinds of alloys.

Out of interest, whats your project and are there any pics?

No pics yet as it's still having a lot of work done (pretty much body off) it's a 1969 Karmann Ghia so not the sort of thing you will find at the average cruse.

These are the wheels

Don't forget Saabs. Mine still proudly wears it's 15" Saab Aero 3 spokes, complete with all the centre caps.

You might be surprised at what we get at out local one.

3 Porsche 911 Carrera 4's, a pretty tidy MK1 Fiesta RST (yes a MK1 Fiesta upgraded to an RST), a Bentley Turbo, my Saab 900, and an Abbott tuned 9000 Aero from Northweest Saab, a very mint 1200 Beetle that has been totally rebuilt (that is getting an engine build and ice install soon), a mint MK1 and 2 Escort RS/Mexico pairing that show up regularly, a couple of MK2/3 Xpacked Capris, a 1500 midget that appears to be slightly breathed on by owners dad, as it is running weber twin 40's, a Rover P6 3500 that is mint. It is a family heirloom that has passed through 3 generation, is totally mint, and the owner runs a Jap import company, so likes something non Jap to run arround in.

We do have a good number of Jap supercar wanabes (Supras, MR2 Turbos, Impreza/Evos, and RX7's and the like standard and modded) and the usual Neddy Nova crowd. But most people actually get interested in the odd, the genuine luxury/performance, and the Retro crowd.

I think a tidy Karmann would be pretty cool.

Yeah, I like the Saab ones 3 spokes. There was an arm of my mum's family that always drove Saabs when I was a kid. I remember being more impressed with the electric windows than the alloys actually, but if the wheels are right, you hardly notice them IME.

The ones Depression showed for his car will look quite cool on it as well. I wouldnt worry much about appearing "untrendy" to boyracers in a car made in 1969.

don't know who makes those ones, but they do look very similar to Boyd Hotrod wheels from the late eighties/early nineties.

Very high quality wheels, and I reckon they would modernise an older car nicely, without looking out of place.

Extremely. 'Untrendy' is probably too kind a word for it.

Because we're not nice people :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence from you and Douglas, it's all coming together (well the parts are) just got back to a pair of wing mirrors from Canada Ordered on Monday here on Friday, that's a lot better than I normally find with UK suppliers.

The Saab 3 spokes look good.

There's a time and place for them normally tho, and it takes something good to be able to pull it off. Cobra's look absolutely excellent with them on (see John Doe for instance).

Considering I know that I guess I could have put 2 and 2 together. :)
