Practical Performance Car

Read the first issue. Looks like half the staff from Practical Classics are there and, of course, Will Holman's V8 Capri. Must admit, was pretty good read but it did seem a bit like 'this is our first issue and we wanna cram as much in that makes as sound really, really cool'. Worth a read for £3.70 or whatever it was. Dunno how it'll pan out in the future though.

Chris.

Yes, and even applied as a writer.

Unfortunatley no go, I've some published work in the mountain bike and specialist computer press, but nothing motor orientated.

Still, I'm going to be submitting some freelance stuff.

Will ocassionally posts to the

formatting link
forums. I think he was a bit badly placed in practical classics as the editor, as it has definatley gone back to more mainstream cars since he moved on, and less motorsport/modified, which is good as PPC would have less readers if PC had carried on as he left it.

Agreed there. I stopped reading PC a while ago, but the general consensus when I stopped buying it seemed to be that the writing style was not in favour with most of the readers - certainly the 'modifying' issue is one that is quite sensitive with many classic owners. Some simply like to keep their cars totally original - which I have no problem with (although as the years go by, it becomes harder and harder to not 'tamper' with a car in some way or other); it's the idea that if you have a classic car, then you

*should* keep it original which annoys me. But anyway. I could probably go on and on about it all night. Right now I just bought a Porsche 924 and it is in such good condition I want to keep it as original as possible. I felt the same way about my Peugeot 305, but in the end I attempted to turn it into the fastest 305 *ever* - didn't quite manage it, but now I've taken it off the road so I can try again in a year or so ;)

Hell, it might've been the fastest 305 ever, I don't think anyone's actually keeping records.

I think PPC could fill a hole in the market, so long as they figure out what sort of content to concentrate on. Right now, it just seems exactly like PC but with an emphasis (perhaps over-emphasis) on modifying. I guess it's difficult to find the right sorta angle.

Chris.

PS - I applied to them as a photographer!

Maybe an owners write up, but I'm right near to Tatton park, and it has it's classic and American shows coming up. So fancied doing a couple of photo articles on the modded metal/high performance stuff, especially the stuff you might not see regularly driven.

Thanks for pointing that out - being relatively new to the area (been here 9 months or so) I didn't realise I was on the doorstep of the host to several car shows!

Just looked on the website and there appears to be some good stuff coming up so thanks again!

yep, During the show season you have the classic car and autojumble, a VW show, Stars and Stripes, and the classic and sports car and autojumble.
