I think he should get an AX 1.5D. As a personality strengthening excercise. Or something. Or a diesel Maestro.
Or a Mk1 Mondeo, with a 1.1 OHV engine transplanted. Something really silly.

Volvo S60 - 160mph on clock Rover 75V6 145mph on clock Merc A170CDi - 115mph on clock Smart - 85mph on clock.
I'd buy a smart without having to think twice if I needed basic group 1 transport. As it is I've moved to gp6.
1.3 sierra.
A 106 1.4 Diesel would be better... heavier, and even more sluggish.

Heh - they make a slower version of my Merc... A160 Cdi, Top speed irrelevant, you'll never find a long enough road.
This Maestro actually goes quite well when you wring its neck.
And it looks like a complete shed, even though it isn't... which all in all, makes it an ideal rush hour in town vehicle - any extra dents will just add character to it. ;-)

I believe the maestro has just been facelifted by it's current chinese manufacturer...
