It's not a fact but I have had 2 x 40 quid fines now, both revoked after writing to the dvla, both for cars I never owned, all on or after 60 days, usually it's dated dead on 2months after the tax has lapsed

They won't let you do this no more, if you don't have the form sent through the post you cannot tax a vehicle in advance, it will only allow you to back tax untill the 1st of each month.

So you can't tax a vehicle until the first of the month, by which time you're already driving illegally ?

Well you'll almost certainly get a fine. Depends exactly where you're driving the thing. Having a filled-in V10 form along with a written-out cheque and an insurance certificate will work once, maybe twice if you're really lucky and pulled over by 2 different cops from different districts, but you'd be as well just paying up.

Oh, actually, having re-read your post, I was a bit wrong. You always used to be able to tax a car up to 2 working days before the end of the month, even if it isn't currently taxed - don't know if you still can. I know that you used to be able to re-tax a currently taxed car up to 14 days before its expiry, but don't know the current rules.

The chances of being pulled up are small these days. Christ, I can't even remember the last time I was pulled, it must be over 10 years ago.
