Not collapsed yet then? They will.

Wimp James at JBS was running 800bhp at one point. Nutter, the con rods tend to let go above about 340bhp if you rag it a lot.

Not yet.

I am aware some have had issues with them though, so we shall see.

It's one of the reasons why I made sure I bedded them in as per the guff that came with them - no excuse if they now disintegrate, given I assume by observing that, they've 'cured' properly.

Well I was impressed. ;-)

Aye... this one is running a 2 litre stroker kit - I would hope the gubbins for that are uprated from the standard internals.

I had green stuff pads on my MK1 MR2 and found them s**te they lasted 2000 miles mind you I did used to have to try and keep up with a bunch of MR2 Turbo's back then and the only way to do that was to brake as late as possible cooked the brakes quite quick that did!

I gave them another chance on the MR2 Turbo but found them useless so I got my mate to whack standard toyota pads on which were loads better and cheaper!

didn't even chance it with the BM used only BM pads on it so far and the brakes are probably the sharpest i've had on any car! mind you it's probably the newest car i've had lol only real brake upgrade is better fluid and braided lines going by modded cars that my mates have had that i've driven, best was my mates skyline with a nice set of brembo's all round that thing could make your face come off when used hard! but they cost silly money!

Yea I had GreenStuff on my 90bhp 1.6i 405 and they were still poor, faded after driving home a certain and the amount of dust was just ridiculous.

The Brembo 4 pots on the 197, despite been only 312mm are way better than the 330mm AP Racing 4 pots that were on the Vee. I know the Vee was 150kg heavier, and had no weight over the front, but the whole feel and progressiveness on the Brembos is just in a different league. And proof of the pudding wise, it's do 100-0 in 4 seconds flat... That's face hurting - quicker than an Audi R8 or Ferrari F430 Scuderia...

Don't seem to be getting any fade... yet.

However, I've had a look and they appear to be wearing quite rapidly at an angle. :-S

I've only done 300 miles in it since they were fitted, and this is already very noticable... so I'm not expecting many miles from them going by what I've seen so far.

Back to the drawing board... I need something that bites as hard (if not harder), as these, but without scrubbing out in five minutes.

Am I asking too much?

No, but you should have taken my advice and fitted yellows rather than greens. They need warming up, but are more suited to the weight and power of a Passat.

No-one had any yellows on the shelf on Thursday, and I needed the car for a long trip Friday.

Doesn't matter - I know now, so to speak.

Going to see if there's anything else out there recommended on some of the VW forums for these ready for when these are worn out

Or think about red stuff ceramics. They are popular on heavier cars too and make less dust too

A lot must be down to the car AP and Brembo have a vast knowledge base to draw from and I can't see them making AP deliberately worse than the Brembos. They are after all the same company. Some of the Nissan people are convinced they don't work together at all and duplicate all there R&D, no management would allow that.

Yea my brother uses those on his 406 V6 Coupe and rates them highly. And they're not very dusty.

Yea I reckon so, the Vee's brakes were very good, a lot of people who use them on track on the owners forum don't even change the pads for track use and they apparently never fade, even after a good few hard laps. Some of the owners were of a more mature generation and were very experienced track day warriors, and were pretty skilled judging from some of the vids.

And the 197s brakes are the same as those used on the Clio Cup race cars heh, so they're obviously not bad been that they do full race distances :-)
