It will only Open down the amount of the dividend. From there it is anyone's guess how it will Close or trade during the day. arthur

Then why the "conventional wisdom" that shorting is bad because you pay out a dividend? Obviously if the stock price is decreasing on ex dividend then someone short is already compensated, no net loss due to dividend. right?
