I'm into anything good. On my stereo recently has been the Gershwin Piano Concerto (absolutely awe-inspiring), On a Ragga Tip (SL2 - from 1992), The Longpigs' album "The Sun is often out", The Thrills' album "So much for the City" and Frank Sinatra's My Way. And that's just the half of it.

Argh. Now I have that crap in my head.

I hate you, milkman Peter.

And for nasty tunage - I see your Ragga Tip and raise you a "Touch Me" by Samantha Fox/SAW.

When I eventually get around (never??!!) to getting either an MP3 CD system, or maybe a computer, in my car, I've got plans to chuck a load of random

10-second comedy clips to be inserted randomly in between songs - one of them has got to be Trigger's description of his ideal woman from either the last Xmas special or the one before ("What's she like?", "Oh, she's nothing to look at. Very plain. Got a wart just there "), amongst others, including a whole live Bill Bailey show (recorded on minidisc, now on a couple of CDs), featuring lots of loud hysterical foreground laughter from yours truly.

Can I just mention that I find Dido really dull. Just my opinion though.

This week my office stereo has been treated to Jeff Buckley, Miles Davis, Linten Kwesi Johnson, Pixies, UNKLE, London Elektricity, Tindersticks, Augustus Pablo, the Ramones, Marvin Gaye and Bill Hicks - and that's just a quick look at the pile of CDs next to it...very wide and eclectic tastes here!

I do a bit too, but sometimes when I have had a particularly bad day in the office, or feel like crap, something dull stops me driving like a 3 series owner on the way home. If I was to stick on a Chili's or Stereophonics album, I would most likely be not so observant when in that kind of mood, and something like Metallica, or Slipknot would put me in the frame of driving to kill the car in front (they get saved for late night empty motorways and A roads, and down the backroads anytime).

When I get that kind of mood on, Dido is actually very good. It's dull, and soft, but at least it is fairly complex music, so it keeps you awake.

Nope, Ella Fitzgerald or Air is what you want when you're really thrashing the car. Opera makes me crash when I'm going quick. Ride of the Valkyries is another dangerous one.

Oh, I don't need music for that ;)

See, I think I look like a hippy with long hair and such.

Apparently I look more like Charles Manson.

Must be the nervous twitch.

Well I wouldn't have called Dido's music complex, but what do I know :-)

Songs that I've recently put on the stereo and turned up when I've had a shit day and feeling pissed off / depressed (delete as appropriate, sometimes more appropriate not to delete) are tracks 1 and 10 from Coldplay's latest album ("Politik" and the title track "A rush of blood to the head"), this song by Minuteman (wave if you've heard of them) that came on a one track promo I picked up at a gig of theirs, a song called "Speaking in tongues" by Dodgy (track 2 off the single "Good Enough", or a bit of Supertramp (anything from the album "Even in the quietest moments", especially track 6, "From now on"). If I'm in a happy mood I'll put Ben Folds Five on.

Just in case you were going to ask!

but doesn't coldplay make you want to slit your wrists?!?!?!? they sound like Morrissey, only more dull :)

When I'm feeling shit I quite like listening to music that makes me want to slit my wrists - something that agrees with my frame of mind if you see what I mean! Personally I reckon they're a great band, though a lot of their songs don't do much for me (Yellow, Trouble, Clocks), but IMHO they've written some really great songs, including "Everything's not lost" (off their first album) and "Politik", which I particularly love for the atmospheric ending.

I like some happier stuff too, like the Wannadies, that recent single by the Libertines (don't look back into the sun), and I must say the new single by Athlete (that one that bangs on about the true british climate) is absolutely frikkin' superb.

Coldplay, Travis and Ben Folds Five! What's wrong with you? :P

Travis?? Where did I mention that dreary boring band? Though their first album, "Good Feeling" was actually reasonably good IMHO.

My music in car varies greatly depending on my mood and what i fancy at the time, Meat Loaf, Dire Straits, Sum 41, Bowling for Soup, Blink 182, Feeder, Linkin Park, Shania Twain, Amy Studt, Clubland 3 - songs from all of these have been played in my car in the last week...

Ultimate insanity driving song? Well, no contest, Motorhead - Ace of Spades, makes you feel invincible and seriously fast....
