Skoda Felicia 1.6 GLXi 99/T

[Possibly Ping Bob Sherunkle - same engine as your Golf, innit?]

My sister's looking at one of these - shares a house with a guy who's owned some Skoda or other with the same engine, so knows his way around them and could do a fair few jobs on them. Any gotchas on them? Says it's got FSH - it's got just over 120k on the clock - what's the official cambelt interval on these? If it's had the belt done recently but not had tensioners/water pump done is it a major cause for concern, or worth taking the chance? I guess it's an interference engine?

If it smells of munchie box, it was Bob's.

If it drives nice, doesn't clonk and stops in a straight line, just buy it and have the water pump/timing belt changed.

Agreed - I mean, it's surely not worth more than a few hundred quid, maybe less with a short / none existant MOT. If you can get 6 months tax and a new MOT on it, and it's not anything resembling a lot of money then go for it :-) The one I had a courtesy car in like, 2001, was a 1.3 LXi on an N plate - it was well bad :-D

I was about to recomend the 1.3 over the 1.6 because it has a chain instead of a belt and weighs about half as much.
