In the C70 the speakers and amps are built to Dynaudio Acoustics specification - a world leader in studio monitor and home hi-fi technology. Very nice indeed. V70 and S80 premium systems are very similar. S60s have a Harman Audio tuned system that is a bit more "heavy" but equally impressive.

You paid nearly 2k for that sort of performance? Even my standard 19 would have it. Under 8 to 60, 140mph, leather, leccy windows and roof, trip computer, abs, 4 door saloon. Can pick one up for 300 of your quids

Nothing to boast about. You could have collected a newer 620 TI with half the starship mileage, for much less ! And it would have had alloys :)

Spoke to the place with the engine today they want £1700 +vat for the engine and £900 +vat for the 'box and the engine doesn't have any of the loom. So that's £3290 then I need to make a custom loom and EMS.

That's another £1200, then.

As you can imagine my answer was a no thanks. So it's back to a 1.8t or the stock motor with a little tweaking. Unfortunately my father is having his garage extended or I'd ask him to keep hold of it for a few months.

The point is that you get what you pay for. A £300 R19 would be a wreck within a month with the way I use a car. A £2k Passat will probably last a couple of years.

They wear even the lower miles, less well, mechanically.

All the ones I've looked at in recent times, have felt distinctly flat and lacklustre when I've floored them.

I don't care what anyone says, an equivalently priced 620TI would be a heap of tatty unreliable s**te compared with my Passat.

Given he shagged the lump in the first place, I'd suggest he owes you that much...

I had a few as company cars when they were fairly new - an excellent car, when they haven't been thrashed for a few years.

The temptation to have my dads 623iS off him, is still quite great - these don't seem to go so flat in old age; for one thing they don't get as hard a life anyway, and for another, they've a peach of a Honda lump. :-)

Yes but the roof's coming off the garage and I don't trust builders not to drop it on the car. Still it's going from a 2-3 birth hopefully with a pit as he's not too far away I can use it to fiddle.

Yet another one who looks purely at the quoted figures, and doesn't bother to actually drive both, methinks.

When they were *new*, the Ti would have been up on power... now they're getting on a bit, the *all* the Tis' I've test driven, have felt very flat - like a lot of turbo stuff, in old age.

The economy... according to Parkers, the 623i is about 1mpg worse off, compared to a 620Ti...

Agreed. But that's a small price to pay, considering they make a sensible amount of power, and they're extremely cheap to fix (starter motor and alternator for mine, cost somewhere around £100 in total). As a "performance" car, the Passat is leagues behind.
