Well, the Elise isn't quite that pristine anymore

No, I didn't lob it.

Tried to fit the soft top, which is one of those "it seems to be a good idea after 10 pints" types. The left 'bar' between the windscreen surround and the rollbar seemed to sit a little wobbly but in the right place.

That is, until I put the two roof tensioners in that run between the side bars and laid the roof on top. *Sproing* went the tensioner, the left bar fell out, hit the door on the way down (nice paint chip) and much bad language was used. Looks like the blocks these bars lock into are a little, err, worn. Another look at Eliseparts suggests that there is an improved type available but of course I need the whole set of parts. So that's the next sixty quid gone.

I also found out why the car was so noisy - the rear windscreen gasket is only partially present. Well, some of it was stuck to the hardtop in places it should be, and there's a gap next to my right ear. Grrr. New seal - another 40-odd quid.

So, with the other bits I bought (including an outdoor cover), that'll be around 300 quid for 20 miles' worth of driving so far.

The other amusing bit was the removal of the decat pipe. Every came apart easily but the joints looked like they had the world's supply of exhaust paste smeared all over it. Very funny, given that the proper gaskets are about 3 quid for both...

The joys of Elise ownership, one of my front indicators popped out of the clam today when a gust of wind from a bus going the other way hit it. Turns out one of the clips were broken before but someone had bodged it back in with some silicone. £80+ for a new one :-( At least it doesn't look like it's done any permanent damage to the paintwork.

Indeed :/.

Well, I guess the MSA-approved rear towing eye I put on counts as a (positive) mode.

Oh dear.

How big is the paint chip?

You should be able to get somewhere that specialises in repairing that sort of thing to sort that at a reasonable cost.

Stone chip size, fortunately. Unfortunately on a door that the PO once removed has had resprayed so it's in rather good nick. And the chip is very visible.

I'd probably just touch it in and if it bothers me too much, I'll let Beav have a go.

I expect it is on something that polished and blemish free.

Long way to go just to get a stone chip sorted.

Seriously, try a local 'chipsaway' place first - if they don't do a good enough job, then is the time to take it elsewhere... IMHO, anyway.

The problem with chipsaway places is the materials they use. You really, really don't ever want to have to paint anywhere near or on top of their stuff.

Now this is one I've never heard before. What's the script here Timo? I'm just wondering as I know a couple of chips away type chaps and they both seem to be excellent. One works for a 'prestige' dealership and does most of the cars they get.

Well... I thought the whole point of using them was so you didn't have to use any paint... ;-)

That, and be honest... you won't keep it long enough to need two lots of paint on it. :-P
