I'd like to say "trick of the light" because at most angles you can't see it.

It's a product of a part respray, the back end was remodelled by a Vauxhall Cavalier on the day I bought it (in fact at the first set of traffic lights I stopped at). Unfortunately the insurance company, bodyshop, dealer and inspector all say it's matched as well as can be (something about nanotec paint, metallics, blah blah), so I hit the 3rd party insurer for a diminution claim - paid out (2 yrs later) about the price of a full respray, which I'll save for when it needs it, or just spend on stuff.
