1965/66 Rim and tire posibilities

I am looking for all the posibilities for a 1965 mustang fastback. If you use the newer style 17 inch rims it requires the use of spacers and requires you to roll the inner fender, this does not sound like the right choice. I am looking for other choices that will increase the tire size to 16-17 inch rims and fit without modifications. If you have the correct backspacing numbers this would be great. The rim company's have been saying that "this should fit fine...." any help.
