could be mechanical, ends of cable unscrewed ?

clean the air idle bypass with carb cleaner will work like a champ

Thermostat is staying closed, which may be just fine

read the codes out, or have a station do it.

I have the same problem, intermittantly, anyone have a fix for this one ?

cats still on?

With that age and miles you need to start a systematic maintenance schedule to replace and/or clean sensors, filters, actuators, gaskets etc. Start with fuel filter replacement, MAF/throttle body/IAB/TPS cleaning, general tuneup, cleaning electrical connections and applying dielectric grease, transmission fluid/filter changes (drain the torque converter too), cooling system maintenance etc. In my experience, the Fox Mustangs are so damn dependable that over time the owners tend to think they are invincible and long term, and short term, maintenance isn't necessary. When this happens you start to see little annoyances like the ones you state. With a little attention I bet the car will run and drive like new again.

If you have to replace the air bag module (behind the radio in the dash), talk to Tim (aka Musttanguy). I got a used unit from him in perfect condition for a fraction of what they cost new. Been perfect ever since.
