95 GT Starting Problems and Oil change Question

Hi all, My 95 Gt is giving me a bit of trouble lately, it has been garage kept for the past 3 years, it has less than 2000 miles has been placed on in during those years. I have kept the oil change every six months and routinly changed all fluids etc. Any as of late the darn thing has been hard to start but once it gets going it run great, I would say 2 out of every 5 starts I have to "ride" the starter to get her going. I have not changed the fuel filter in a long time, and I am leaning toward that being the problem. I have checked the dist cap and roter button and they are clean and appear to be in good condition. I guess my question is if it is the fuel filter wouldn't it cause problems everything I tried to start the car, and would it cause problems while going down the road? Again I have not changed the filter yet, that will be tomorrow. Also about a year ago my gf took it to refule it and she placed some fule inj. clearner in it and she stated that the silver foil off of the end of the bottom may have gone into the tank... who knows on that one... anyway... Another question, as I stated before, the car sits alot, how often should I change the oil, I use Mobil 1 full syn. generally. The last time I changed the oil was Feb. and the car has only been driven

159 miles and I am about to take a 1400 mile round trip in the car at the end of this month, so should I change the oil before the trip, or is that a waste of money, which I am leaning toward....

oh yeah, the car is a 95 Gt 5.0 (duh), no mods, 79986 miles...

Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated........

I haven't driven Charlene more than about 2000 miles/year for the past couple of years, and my maintenance schedule is pretty light. She gets Mobil One every 6 mos as well, which I'm sure is overkill.

More importantly, I'd drive it at least once a month for 1/2 hour to keep the battery charged and to displace moisture. Roll the windows down and let fresh air inside; run the A/C for a few mins to pump lubricant through the system, then switch to VENT for a few mins. to remove condenser condensation. Check the tire pressure when you do your oil changes, and keep the fuel tank full to prevent condensation problems as well.

Possible battery cable connection issuse.. You might try resecurring the neg and pos leads at both ends. Also redo (unblot and retighten) the main engine ground.... from fire wall to block/intake... placed on in during those years. I have kept the oil change every six

Here's a list of my guesses;

-fuelfilter (easy to replace yourself, but DO use eye protection. Fuel will splash out.

-fuelpump. test it with a fuel pressure tester at the schrader valve. Do NOT over tighten the connection on it.

-fuel pressure regulator. Use the same pressure regulator.

-HAL effect sensor. This is some obscure electronic module inside the distributor. I had the dealer replace it since you need a press. Not likely to be the problem unless the engine sometimes stops running for no reason. (like on the freeway for 1 or 2 seconds)

My best bet would be fulepump or regulator. I had a 95GT and the pump was going south at around 90K.

Your oil changes sound more than adequate. Could even extend it. Make sure when you DO run it, drive it for at least 20 miles or so to make sure the entire engine/exhaust is fully warmed up. Do NOT run it in your garage for a few minutes. This will introduce moisture in parts of your engine/exhaust which will result in rust.
