95 mustang question?

I've had this problem....same model and year car. It's usually the water pump. I've had to change it twice! The first time I changed it I got an after-market rebuilt one for around $100 dollars (Ford wants around $400 for new). That pump went bad about 1 year later! Then I changed it again, but this time I've been lucky so far.....2.5 years on the 'rebuilt' pump.

I guess depending on where you get the parts from, it may be better to stick to new Ford parts.

I still can't get over how expensive the new water pumps are from Ford! I thought only import car parts were that expensive.

ps. My engine has around 150k on it, no timing chaing problems. I believe only over-head cam engines have to get timing chains changed every 70k or so. I've only seen this with Hondas....

The 3.8 has been known to give timing cover problems, especially in regards to coolant leaks. We've see Timing chains have become quite ren the odd one where coolant is leaking into the motor as well as out of it. The problem should be attended to quickly since, if any coolant is getting into the crankcase it will damage the crank bearings.

BTW, on the 3.8, the coolant flows through the front cover to get to the water pump.

Timing chains have become quite reliable on the newer crop of motors... with stock valve train, and barring an unforeseen chain guide failures, (not to mention adequate service intervals), a timing chain *should* last the life of the motor.

On my 96 mustang coup, there was a recall for the timing chain gasket being defective, causing leak...3.8

My daughter's ex '95 had a recall for the head gaskets also...right after they blew!

The radiator in my 95 GT went bad last year with about 86K miles on it. It was starting to leak from one of the plastic-to-metal seams. Cost $292 including labor and anti-freeze to replace.

My 96 with 3.8 had radiator starting to seep at tank. New modine radiator (same as factory) Two radiator hoses, thermostat, radiator cap, anti freeze/coolant total $160. Took my sweet time swapping out.. took about 2 hours. Plus a little more time to bleed all the air out of cooling system.. Had a "connection" for the new radiator, but new one without friends would have been about $145 plus the other materials.. Not hard to swap out. Being careful using line wrenches for transmission lines is about the only thing...
