I have seen several articles in magazines such as "Mustang Monthly" that recommend the installation of the 5 speed manual transmission into classic mustangs.
Obviously, this is easier to do if you have a classic mustang with a 3 or 4 speed transmission already. What if I wish to do the install on a Pony with an Automatic? Is it more trouble than it is worth?

Depends upon what you want to do and how deep your wallet is....; )
It is actually a pretty common conversion. Check out the Tech heading on Tom Schmidt's Mustang Page (Google for it under that name). That is a darn good site by the way. But I am told there is no aftermarket maker for the clutch pedal assembly and that originals are climbing in price. Not sure how accurate that is. I read that some parts can come from related vehicles (cougar, galaxie?, etc)
Mustangs Plus has done a number of them and you might email them and ask...
I have a 65 A Code and a 66 C Code Fastback, both 289s and both autos, and I really considered that conversion. It can be done, but so far everyone has advised me to go the AOD (automatic overdrive) route. Note that in drag racing, automatics are very frequently used.
