Will a AOD handle the extra tourqe if I supercharge my 91 Mustang 5.0 cab?

Nov 07, 2003 7 Replies

My father is in the US now, and we were thinking of supercharing our 'stangs.. He's got a 98 Mustang Cab with the 3.8 V6 and automatic, I've got a 91 Mustang Cab 5.0 LX with AOD. I was thinking something like a 6 psi Kenne Bell or something for my car. Is it neccessary to reinforce my AOD transmission?

Stock AOD's are nortoriously weak - the extra power will probably leave you walking if you are hard on takeoff from a standstill.

Thanks guys! Any ideas what I should do? Perhaps go all the way and install a 5 speed or something...

I would spend the money you would for a T-5 swap toward a built AOD. Joe gave you a good link.

I have a Kenne Bell blown '89 LX and there are many days I wish I had a built AOD. I have a T-56 now and had to get a SPEC Stage III clutch to handle the torque and it can be hard > Thanks guys! Any ideas what I should do? Perhaps go all the way and install

If you're going to do that... go with the new 6 speed.

The Lentechs are notoriously overpriced, and actually have some subpar parts. And yes I am speaking from experience.
