Hi All,
I haven't posted in a while 'cause really not much Mustang stuff going on...the '89 351 based car is still going strong and absolutely slayed the emission tests once again! :) The last couple of months have been very different for Mustang activity though!
I did get my '00 GT back from college as my daughter got a new car...not a smoking hulk, but nearly so. I got it back just in time...WHEW!
Now for the SUBJECT. I upgraded the brakes on both the '00 and '89 in sort of a hand-me-down manner. The '00 got the severe duty Cobra fronts from Ford, along with Cobra rears. A fairly easy, moderate priced swap. The brakes aren't that much better the the PBRs until the sixth ot seventh corner while running SOLO2, where they work just as well at the finish as at the start. I also replaced the '95 Cobra Rs with '00 Rs and Nitto 555s. The struts and shocks were shot so a complete set of Tokico 5-ways, Steeda end link kit and sway bar bushings rounded things out.
The '89 received the PBRs from the '00. This required '95 spindles, balljoints, proportining valve, '94 Cobra master cylinder, '94 up 31 spline axles, (pisser as it was already 5-lugged, but all the old stuff sold fast) and some custom brake line bending. (May've forgotten something.) Because it doesn't have anti-lock brakes, I kept the old booster. Feels like manual brakes, but may change this later. The result is a '89 that STOPS. 60 to 0, tho' not measured before is in the 120'-125' range now. Still some front end alignment tuning to do, but Steeda will come to my aide there also.
Just to top things off, my future son-in-law and I are 351izing his '65, as well as updated suspension and brakes (SSBC) and throwing in a T5 'cause it's all apart anyway. It'll be fairly mild to start as he has a tight budget.
