I just got home from Sweden yesterday. I picked my car up and found that theCEL has stayed off for a whole month! I left the car with a friend who wastrying to sell it for me and he drove it everyday back and forth between hishome and his garage. He said the light went off and has stayed off.Not sure if this is over or not, but I drove it twice and it still hasn'tcome back on yet. Only thing done was the vapor canister purge valve. Maybeall it took was a little time?I remain hopeful. I'm having it smogged ASAP! LoL!Cindy

After you replaced the vapour management valve you did clear the code,right??? If not, there is a very real chance that the PCM might not evenbother running the EVAP monitor until a great many number of drive cycleswere completed.This isn't magic, folks..... it is all computer logic.

Check engine light is off!?

Fuel caps are not covered under warranty, according to my dealer. What a joke these people are! A $5 part took me $189 to diagnose.

Don't know bout your neck of the woods but a new gas cap from the dealer cost me $23.00 and still did not cure the problem.

Replaced the gas cap with one from a '98 and the light came back on in record time. :-( The caps were identical.

You inspected all the hoses leading the the purge valve when you replaced it, didn't you?

Yes, and nothing appeared to be loose or kinked...to me, but then I am not even sure what to look for! :-(( Honestly I'm growing tired of this crap. Sadly, as soon as I can I'm visiting a Ford dealer.
