F%#@&%# CEL!!!!!!!

Nope. Installed a new vapor canister purge valve this morning, but it does NOT solve the P1443 code. :-(

It was looking good for awhile, too! Frickin' CEL stayed off for over two hours, but a few minutes ago BINGO it's back!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

So, let my $46 investment be a lesson to you all. ;-)

Any other ideas, folks? I really don't want to spend another $100 on an IAC or anything else, only to find out that won't help either.

Shit! I'm leaving for Sweden on Friday, so not much else to do. When I get back I'm killing that CEL bulb!!!! ;-)

F*** A my cel just went out but Im sure it will be back.I gotta find the cause because my state inspection is up at the end of the month. If I uncover anything I'll post it.

Ah the wonders of having an 88 GT... No CEL :)

Do the codes lead to any clues or am I beating a dead horse?

I feel your pain. I just went through a new vapor canister and a pair of O2 sensors as shown by codes.

My CEL light is still on. And just in time for my two year CA emission requirement.

I'm ready to snip the wire. I'll be sure to post if I learn anything. Good luck in the meantime.

This what happens when we fail to realize that the CEL can either be causal or symptomatic. If anyone wants to post their codes.... which codes are CMDTCs, which codes are ODDTCs and whether or not a KOER test was run and what (if any codes) were retrieved there....

No sense in cussing out the CEL - after all, it's only the messenger (or do we still shoot the messenger?). Intermittents can be difficult to diagnose but hard faults can be relatively easy if we follow a logical process and refuse the urge to "shotgun" the repair. Cindy's problem could be a blocked/pinched/kinked hose or a problem with the fuel tank pressure sensor or circuitry...... or even a faulty gas cap....

That's what my problem was on my truck. Faulty gas cap triggered the light every two days after I reset the PCM. Took it in and they replaced the cap under warranty; no problems now.

Well, hopefully those of you that are mentioning clipping the wire, or pulling the bulb are kidding

Because even if YOU can't see the light, the OBDII computer will snitch to the smog machine that it is INDEED on, whether or not it is illuminated !

I have a similar problem, but only occasionally. It seems to want to come on when I romp on her and get over 100mph, or romp her pretty hard, but it goes out in about 45 miles of normal driving. I have not had the codes checked, but she has done this for a long long time. It drives me nuts, but she runs ok!

Not that this may help you all at the moment, but if you take your car to the local AutoZone, they can "decode" your OBDII faults for free and give you a likely suspect. They have all the codes listed in their computers and just happen to have all the sensors that may show as bad...Just trying to suggest what may have been overlooked...Trooper

Check out the forum - there are a few references to specific codes. HTH.

Just out of curiosity, have either you disconnected the battery for a half hour or so to clear the codes?

On O2 sensors, you absolutely have to disconnect the battery before putting them in if you want to clear the codes.

I was wondering the same thing. Sometimes it takes doing that to clear the codes after a part R&R.

Not tried that yet. My mech reset the code when he scanned it. Isn't that enough?

Wow. :-) There's a lot of info on there I just don't understand, but it was interesting to read.

From what I DID understand, drive cycles and style can effect whether or not a code will clear??? I did notice when the light came back on, I stomped pretty hard on the gas. I didn't pay any attention to temperature, speed, or number of drive cycles.

Read on the OBDII site that if you wiggle the wires to the IAC valve and tap on the valve and the engine speed doesn't change, then it's in the EVAP system. Gotta try that!! That was on a Ranger, guess it's the same for a Mustang.

It's starting to look like I am at the mercy of the Ford dealership. :-(
