Cobra won't start - sequil to starter question

Yup.. that's one of the many wonders of electronics. While it's the exact opposite of what you'd do on a carbureted car, it's a way for the computer to allow for the excess gas to be removed from the cylinders. Pretty tricky stuff, but there are a lot of things built into the processors of these cars.

Did you know that, on most 5-speed models (EEC-IV at least, probably all), if you try to bumpstart the car, the computer will notice that there is no starter signal, but the engine is turning slow and irregular as if trying to start, so it modifies the timing scheme to assist in starting the car?

Lots of little tricks these things do in the background to make life better... at least as relates to the car...

I have heard of this - pretty neat stuff. There is also a program that refuses to allow the engine to overheat. If it comes close, it starts shutting down fuel delivery to certain cylinders and cranks the fan up high. If this doesn't work, it will shut down even more cylinders, and eventually will set a MIL and shut down the engine entirely before any damage is done.

AFAIK, this feature goes all the way back to EEC-IV in the mid 80's, so it works on all models since about 1986.

Wow, who would have known. Good to hear she's back alive again. Always nice when Ford knows about a problem but doesn't tell their customers. They should. ohwell.

I know the PATS system is very picky. I know a guy who races his cobra and he has a modified chip. HE tried several and >Ok guys.. here we go.
