Emissions Testing

I just got my emissions tested today on my 2002 GT and I was surprised how easy it was. I was expecting them to have to hook up the sensors to the exhaust but they just hooked up to the computer (without me even seeing them do it) and they were all done within 30 seconds. So I take it the sensors on after the cats are enough for them? Is that all everybody else does?

If it was California, it wouldn't get tested til it's 4 or 6 years old.....

.... and that wasn't a emissons test, it was just a scan for codes. Which should have cost nothing....

No, here in PA, they are starting to test OBD-II cars just using the scanner. I'm not sure if that's every year, every other year, or if every other year you have to have your car tested on the sniffer... but there are some emissions checks being done straight through the datalogger on the PCM.

My understanding is that they use "Mode 6" data (one of the generic parts of OBD2) to ensure that all emissions monitors have completed and that no codes are stored or pending.

Just a word to those who would reset codes before their test.... reset will clear the emissions monitors and will also set a code P1000 (Drive Cycle Not Complete).

Not here in PA, the vehical has to complete a drive cycle with out throwing a code. If it completes a cycle with out a code other than the P1000 you're good to go.
