Finally took my '85 to the strip

Earlier this year I bought a really nice '85 (cheap) from a friend who was in need of cash. Car had nearly new and perfect paint, and was "completely worked". I parted with $3700 and bought the vehicle. Admittedly, I never ran on the strip myself, but I managed to beat a 14.20 out of it, still having 2.73's and 100 lbs of junk in the back. Not too bad. Once I figure out exactly what the shift points should be and tune it up, I'm certain I can get into the high 13's and with a set of 3.73's who knows. I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

The only way to know is to put the car on an chassis dyno to learn just where peak torque is. Generally first gear is run 300 to 500 RPM higher than the others to land it in the meat of the torque in second.

I'm planning on getting it on the dyno soon. Makes sense what you said about shifting from 1st into 2nd torque curve wise. I was slain by a worked SVO that pulled a 13.8. Need to work on that. :-/
