Free Exhuast...

At my job someone got tired of his MAC longtube headers and his MAC off-road h-pipe. So he went out and bought shortys and matching off road pipe. Since we both have 2003 5 spd gt's (only mine is vert) he said he will just give them to me...so I think it is a pretty sweat deal. Only thing is the headers are rusted from wear...and he has cat covers welded on. Cat covers im not worried about but what about the rusty headers? Is there a treatment for them or should i just scrape off some rust and paint them over? Will a shop powder heat coat them or whatever? Thanks

I know the local metal coating shop will do anything to any metal, new or used. But with a new piece he can warranty the Jet-Hot for life, and can't offer that on a used part. He will still do it and it may work just fine, he's just telling you he's covering his ass if/when it doesn't work out.

Powder coating won't work very well, but it will work. The new high temp stuff is a little better than high temp paint. Prep is the same as paint, though. You really need to get down to the bare metal. Media blasting works best. Ceramic coating is a better option. It looks good, controls heat better, and will gain a little extra power over bare steel (only a tad). Jet hot has been developing a bad rep for customer service. Air Borne Coatings did mine. And they did an excellent job on a set of long tubes for $210 including shipping. Or, you could just ignore how they look and put them on and see how they perform. What do you want for free?
