Gas price: Dec 14, 1981, Toronto Canada

A price war drove it briefly down to $0.21/litre or $0.76 U.S. gallon. Price per U.S. gal in U.S. dollars at the time would have been: $0.61. -Rich

I can remember paying about $1.40/gallon in Texas in late spring/early summer 1981. And those were 1981 dollars. It was not the best time to be driving a '66 Mustang V8 that averaged about 13-14 mpg, aside from the fact that anytime is a good time to be driving a '66 Mustang.
