In need of crankshaft

Hey guys and gals,

So the engine is bare, and needs lots of reworking - sleeving on the 8th cyl, bloody good cleaning...

Instead of trying to get the crankshaft reworked, I want to buy a new (stock) crank. I've heard that the HiPo 289 cranks are the same as the stock 289's...anyone confirm this? I only seem to be able to find 302 cranks on the net anyway. I've tried Discount auto's site, and they don't have many engine internals on their online database, and I can't get 'autozone' to load.

So can anyone give me some names of suppliers of crankshafts - stock, new, not refurbed? (I assume that crank suppliers will also have stock conn. rods?)

OR - does anyone have a good crank they want to get rid of? Of course, I'll pay shipping and so on as long as it's in excellent condition.

Please help!!

Thanks in advance

Kevin

The HiPo had an added counter balance on the front, so it is different, but still interchanges. JC Whitney listed 289s for around 175, regrinds of course. You will not find a new 289 crank easily. If at all. Used cranks are out there, shop around, but they won't be forever. I have one stashed here for a future project. Early 302 stuff is getting scarce too, but the junkyards are full of 5.0 roller blocks for you to experiment with.

have fun...

the HI-PO 289 crank is identical to a standard 289 crank except they were hand picked and tested for hardness. The 289 hi-po also used a seperate slip on counterweight behind the crank gear. Since your engine will require new pistons all you need is a 302 crank from a

68-80 302 & rods from any model 302(except 69-70 Boss) to make it a 302,also upgrade to forged(302) pistons for extra durability and consider having it balanced as well.

Thanks guys

I've been and looked at the JCWhitney site, and can't find any Ford crankshafts at all - they must be in the printed catalogs...? I'll keep looking though...

Thanks again,

Kevin
