My Mustang don´t start when engine is hot. Someone know why?

How can anybody make a guess with such little information?

I know 2 things that will cause this. Really bad compression, and gasoline boiling in the carb when engine is shut off. However, the latter will start after cranking on it a bit.

more info ??? what year whats it doing ? before and after ? tell us in detail ???

Or sometimes just a bad starter (if it doesn't crank when it's hot). Also, check to make sure the accelerator pump diaphrams aren't cracked and leaking all over the place.

Cheers,

It's tired. After all it is pushing 40.

Yeah. The OP didn't say whether the engine was turning over or not. Like I said, need more info.

In line with your comment, if he has headers, he may be frying the starter and it won't turn the motor over hot.

Starter works greate. After 45 sek with the starter going it starts, and black smoke from the exathuost. Engine 289 2v Year > -67 Engine is 100% original

It sounds like it's just time for a carburetor rebuild.

Have you checked:

cylinder compression plugs wires fuel pressure fuel filter

Once you get it running, does it run OK?

Cheers,

also check coil for thermal breakdown. condensor should read 5 microfarrats. and long pink wire in mail harness to the coil maybe frayed or broken limiting voltages. low voltage at coil and hence to spark plugs often will keep a acr running but can't fire in the rich enviroment of a start up condition

It's flooding. Gas in the carb bowl is boiling and spilling down the carb throat. The cure is a carb spacer, preferably a phenolic one that won't transfer as much heat. Also, you can get a very thick (about a quarter inch) carb gasket/spacer. Easy fix.

Sounds like you have fuel leaking down the carb after turning it off, creating a overly rich condition which will not support combustion. Drive the car until the engine and engine compartment are at normal hot temperature such as when the car won't start easily. Turn the engine off, remove the air cleaner and look down the carb. _Do not_ touch the throttle. Just watch (a flashlight may help) and look for any fuel dripping from teh boosters (those round things hanging out into the venturi's) and also for the throttle blades getting wet.

What you should do is rebuild teh carb. You ahve an Autolite 2100, which is about the easiest carburetor in the world to rebuild. Your problem is likely to be a sunken float/incorrect float level, bad needle & seat, or a bad power valve/gasket. Either way, you'd be best off rebuilding it. Kits are cheap and I'm sure after 40 years it could use it.

In the mean time, when you go to start it hot try holding the gas peadl to the floor when you crank it, let go when it starts. This is how you start a carbureted vehicle when it is flooded, as it allows as much fresh air in as possible.

In addition to all of the above information, you probably have a power valve leaking. The power valve is the mixture enrichment device that is controlled by engine vacuum. It bypasses the main jets at heavy load and richens the fuel mixture. They are famous for leaking. I don't know if you can still buy them from Ford, but you might want to get one (Be sure it has a new gasket also) first. Next, Take the carb off, turn it over (Hold it away so you don't get gas all over yourself) On the bottom of the carb is a cover approximately 1" square. with four screws. Take them off and remove the cover. If there is gas in this cover, you have found your problem. You should now have what looks like a large hex nut with a hole in the center. Take a 1" wrench and remove it. Replace with a new valve and gasket, do not over tighten. replace the cover and re-install the carb. Good Luck Bill

I think you're describing the accelerator pump. The power valve is in the metering block.

That's 5 microfarads.

That's in a Holley, not in an Autolite/Motorcraft. I've never known a power valve to blow out in the latter.

Thanks! It was fuel leaking down the carb. Think it was incorrect float level, will check that out!
