Older cars and "young service people"

I bring my 84 Capri 5.0 into the local Goodyear (people I trust) once a year for lube and oil. Sometimes I'll drop the car off the night before, and I always remind them that the car doesn't have fuel injection, and you have to pump the accelerator to start it.

An old fart that still loves the sound when you hit the accelerator and the 4bbl carb opens up.

meanwhile my wife insists on starting her fuel injected Volvo 240 with the gas pedal down... then complains to me that it won't start... then when I go out to it, it fires right up... So after the last time I said NEVER DO THAT since then, no starting problems... go figure....

Now confuse them with a manual trans. I've had to drive a car on a lift myself at a tire shop because the guy didn't know how to drive it. Emissions testing has been an 'experience' as well.... no I'm not allowed to drive through the test... no they don't know how to drive it. find the one person who can 'drive stick' (with lots of clutch slippage etc) and try to teach them how to drive it.... arg.

One shop I went to, the mech lifted the hood, saw the Edelbrock 4-bb, and said, 'wowl I don't even know how to tune an engine with one of those.'

Fortunately, I wasn't there for a tune-up. LOL
