We signed the paperwork on the house today, if all goes well, we are on our way to Tennessee in 30 days (give or take a few)

We are looking at the Savannah or Columbia area.. hard to say really till we get there, still seeking the perfect home.

Kate - I had heard that when moving out of CA they charge tax on your property value increase. What, if any, is the truth on the subject?

I've never heard of that. I think that it might bear investigation though. For all they know, we are just selling the house, how would they know where we put the money?

Kate, that's "close" like the moon is close to earth! I think you'll find Tennessee is like 3 separate states because of the mountain ranges. The Bar-B-Que is much better than anything you'll find in California... the beach life leaves something to be desired... Where in Tennesse are you moving?
That goes into effect with the new owner. Their property tax rate will be based upon the current market value of the house.
The two areas we are looking are near Savannah and near Columbia. Yea, I know what you mean about things not being the same, but I am very excited about the adventure. It will be like moving to a whole new country, but still in the US.

We dont' hafta be in person to swap lies... My 98 Mustang GT has 9 turbochargers, 4.30 gears, & can go 270mph in 2nd gear. woot. Tennessee isn't too far from Arkansas.. we COULD actually meet up if one of us happened to be going through the other's state. Would be really cool to meet you in person... I'd wanna meet yer hubby too.. he seems pretty cool & mechanically inclined =). Anyway.. good luck w/ the move.. I think you'll like it there.

Yeah Kate, you'll like it here. I moved to Memphis from NY about 3 months ago... They REALLY like mustangs down here. You can't drive a half mile without counting 4 or 5 of them. I'm currently between 'stangs, but I'll be getting another one soon considering how easy to get they are. I'm hoping for maybe a 92 GT Vert this time.
