Power Sunroof Won't Open All the Way (2002 Grand Prix)

Dec 15, 2006 Last reply: 1 year ago 7 Replies

I just bought a 2002 Grand Prix, and the power sunroof won't open all the way - at least sometimes: I tested it today, and it opened all the way once. When it won't work right, it opens about half way (the sunshade is already open completely). If I press the button again, it might open just a tad more, perhaps an eighth of an inch or so.

It seemed to work just fine when I test drove the car a few weeks ago.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

sounds like it's getting stuck. Spray some lube in the tracks GW

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll look into your idea.

When our sunroof didn't close all the way it was the rubber gasket around the edge. It got rolled over somehow. This prevented the window from sealing closed. Check the edge for flaws, should be and easy fix.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire. If you find a fix let me know.

Check the switch first to be sure it is ok - not overheating or anything. If the switch is ok then, it could be the motor. When the motor on my driver's side power window went out ('97 Firebird convertible), it started the same way. First it was an isolated incident; the window wouldn't go all the way up. I waited a few minutes and it worked ok. Nothing happened for a week and then it did it again. It got more frequent and worse the more it happened until it stopped working completely.

Poster, Has there been any progress on this, did you find a fix? I am having the same problem and not sure what the fix is. The track looks lubed, motors seems fine, opens partially until it seems to get stuck. There is a clicking noise too.

Mine did the same thing.... open it as far as it goes then dump cooking oil in the tracks and shut and open it a couple times... I thought my motor was bad but after that it's like I have a brand new sun roof... worked amazing
