Borla, eh? How much did that cost? Is it as quiet as some say? Are you gonna swap out the mid-pipe? Any other mods in the works??

I'm seriously considering a '98 or '03 Cobra at the moment. Just not sure how I feel about putting myself in debt once again. I am debt free right now and I kinda like it. What do you pay for your Mach each month?

Cindy... should be able to pick up a '98 Cobra in good condition relatively cheap. The prices on these have been dropping like rocks thrown off of a skyscraper since the '03's came out and were produced in such number. The

I paid $17K for my '97 Cobra in '02 with 24k on the clock, great condition. That same car is now worth around $10-12k. That's a big hit to take on a used Cobra in a year, but it's a buyer's market right now.

Even the '03-'04s are going for much cheaper than everyone thought they might. Remember talk of bidding wars on the showroom floors over the first one or two? Now they're going under MSRP all day long.

Note that the difference between the '96, '97, and '98 Cobras are effectively that the '98 saw the removal of the strut tower brace and the change of wheels over to the '95 Cobra R-style wheel. I don't know of any other major changes. Some color options were different (with Bright Atlantic Blue being added to the lineup in '98.. wish I had one of those).

That's what I've been hoping for. Looking in southern CA and the Bay Area and so far can only find what I want in the $15,000 range. We're ditching our '01 Civic and buying the LX next door, so we'll still have one car payment and two cars. Everybody will be happy and no extra cash will be flying out the door each month.

I've forgotten where you live? Here in CA I'm told there is usually a "cool car mark-up" so my chances of finding a low mileage '98 in excellent condition for $12,000 are slim.

Always an option if I get lucky with a favorable interest and hefty down payment.

I actually prefer the '94-'97 rims. Well, thanks, JS. I'll let you know what I find.

So you're getting the LX then? Good choice. You should have fun with it. Easy to mod into anything you want it to be.

Yeah, I'm sorry, but that's the stark reality when there's a 100hp difference between the cars. My car was right up there with the fast crowd when it came out. Now the stock ricers are knocking at my door - the modded turbo cars have been flying past me for years. The new Cobra makes my car look like a 4-cylinder Fox compared to the 5.0. Kinda pale. :-) That doesn't mean that I don't love to drive it... that I don't have a blast driving it. I love my car. I'd probably enjoy it more with the '03 Cobra drivetrain, but I love it regardless.

Shop around... other areas if necessary. There's enough people here that would go check a car out for you real good before you drove/flew out to purchase it. Keep your search open to '96-98 as well and you may come up with a bite. I've seen Mystic '96's online going for $15-17k in good condition... just have to keep your eyes open and wait. Rushing into something is the worst you can do for your pocketbook. Just ask me, I know. :-) I live in SW PA, just NE of Pittsburgh.

Some dealers were offering 0% for a while. There was a dealership in my area offering 0% on Saleens a well, but only if you could afford a 3-year loan on a $60k car. I couldn't quite come up with that kind of cash.

Ah, I did see a couple Cobras out there on eBay. But I don't know how I feel about buying a car off eBay? There's a black '96 Cobra with 35,000 miles on it for $13,000 on eBay. Car is located in Southern CA. I was looking for a '98, though. Just want something newer. Oh, and I've put a for sale sign on my car now. *tear in eye*

Not for credit like mine, they aren't. ;-) I am rebuilding my credit, however, but I doubt it's good enough for the lower interests. I will have at least a $5000 down payment, if that helps.
