Plastic wrapping behind door panels - Replace with what?

Hi guys,

It was my impression that all fox body mustangs (and/or all cars for that matter) come with some sort of plastic wrapping that keeps moisture and what not out of the car which is located behind the door panels. I can see remains of this wrapping on my car but the area is not covered with the wrapping. I have the panels off from installing a couple things and I never want to take them off again!! I wanted to cover these areas the way they were suppose to be covered. What kind of material should I use? I thought of a garbage bag... But I don't think it would hold up very long in the extreme Arizona heat. Any suggestions?

Andy

Hi there,

I would think go to your nearest home depot, and ask for some vapor barrier, the same stuff that they used to line houses. There is also a "red tape" that is EXTREAMLY strong, and is usually used along with the vapor barrier (plastic). It should work, in any temp.

Thx, Dan

I went thru the same thing on one of my cars. I used a decent thickness of Visqueen (spelling?) from someplace like Lowe's or Home Depot. On the originals, it was glued and taped. The glue you can get in an aerosol form, maybe even from the same place; I used Weldwood Spray n' Glue multi-purpose adhesive. The tape I used was just boxing tape for packages. You'll need to cut the shape you need using the old one as a template, if you have enough left, and slice holes where the various things go thru the panel into the door. It's definitely more art than science.

Dynamat. The real thin stuff, you might have to order it from Crutchfield as most stereo stores will try to rape you on the cost.

Paper was used before plastic was, the goop they used seems to have remained the same or pretty similar.

just about any kind of visquine will work... and as far as holding up the sun will not get to it and that is what messes up plastic, the UV ligtht breaks it down....
