Hey girl,
I remember a few months back you talking about being in the market for a BMW and even posing a pic of one you were looking at. I am looking at a '94 530i and wondered if you knew anything about these things that would help me make a decision. I commute 150miles a day for school and need/want something different than a rough riding/handling Explorer. Always dug the 5 series and this one is sweet albeit with a lot of miles.
Any ideas?

All I know is the build quality is far superior to that of my Mustang. ;-) The one I was looking at had WELL over 150,000 miles on it (not sure how much now...maybe 175,000), and still felt solid and new. Bimmers can take a beating like no other car, which is good 'cause most people drive 'em hard and often neglect routine maintenance, as evidenced by a '94 325 black beauty I was looking at recently. Paint was nearly flawless (not sure how previous owner managed that one) but the tranny blew and the old tires and wheels were so coated with dirt and brake dust, I couldn't believe they came off the same car.
I hear conflicting reports of BMW reliability. My husband has owned five BMW's and claims they are extremely reliable. I think reliability really does depend on the driver. But the phrase BMtroubleyou must contain some element of truth, right?

How many miles are we talking? I mean they are great cars if maintained properly. What's the asking price? Have that puppy checked out thoroughly! It is safe to assume, however, that any car with so many miles is going to have some mechanical issues. But with BMW's you're really taking a risk 'cause they are a bit more expensive to work on than your average domestic.
Have you driven this '94? Wish I could be of more help, Mike, but I really don't know much about them, except that I want one...badly. :-)

Yeah, I agree. Love them Mustangs, always will, but the cohesiveness that the BMW's exhibit is amazing.

$3500.00 Which is about half of what Nadaguides.com indicates for the mileage.
The 530i is the one with the 32v V8. I have read of some reliabilitiy issue with these motors as well, however, the way I figure, with 190K, if it was gonna blow up it would have done so by now, or has been replaced.
Probaby Wed. Amazing this is, is that the car is immaculate. NO body damage or evidence of repair. Paint looks original and the interior is almost perfect. Leather is in great shape as well. Doesn't leak anywhere...etc.
I dunno...it's tempting but I guess the test will be in the test drive. Also has the cool BBS wheels too :-) Quite a cool looking car.
