Re: 302 Engine Installation

Maybe the shift cable is binding with the transmission out of place. It should still let you shift it in neutral...

Just an idea.

A newbie question, hopefully not too stupid..

If all else fails.....

Step 1: chock wheels

Step 2: climb under car

Step 3: unhookshifter cable from transmission linkage

Step 4: manually move linkage into buetral, which is why step 1 is so important

Step 5: get of of underneath car, move chocks and push car into driveway, if your drive is a big down sloping hill, well then your SOL, if not good....

Step 6: Clean Car

Step 7: Move car back into garage, and again chock the wheels

Step 8: Manually move linkage back into park (I assume, or wherever it was to begin with)

Now, your done, see simply really....

another option is to remove the bolts from the driveshaft and just take it out of the car :)

Thanks for the suggestion.. I will try this.. I'm really more worried about the state of the linkage, than getting the car to move right now.. My engine is ready, and I will be installing it in the next few days.. I just want to believe, given that I have not messed with the tranny at all (other than lifting) since I pulled the engine, that when I replace the engine, all will be well ...

Thanks again.

Jef

Common practice. Did you find the hole in the sheet metal above the firewall that Ford put there for your coat hanger? A shifter cable is flexible and would not bind up under your condition. You don't have a cable anyway, DUH! What happened to the jack? Why can't you rejack the tranny to relieve the bound solid linkage? BTW: 67 shifters are prone to failure eventually. The release mechanism can break jamming it in park. Always carry tools along!

Thanks very much to everyone. The Tranny was fine once it was settled into place with the engine installed. Having a couple of issues, have not been able to get it started yet.. Maybe missed the distrib by a tooth or something. Ran out of juice in the battery before I could try various timing retards.. At 3:00 AM on a weeknight, had to call it quits for now..

Thanks Again!
