Salt; Dangerous as HELL

Nah, I didn't miss your point. We all "bend the rules" to an extent, we all bring dangerous elements into our comfort zone without thinking. No one teaches that, it's just the compromises we make.

What I was pointing to - tailgating in the snow, cutting off other drivers with zero room for error - goes beyond lazy, or compromise, or relaxed. People are getting more and more vicious (or there are more and more people becoming vicious). When EVERYONE insists on being first in line, there're going to be problems.

Now wait a minute Rich.. which is it? Your Traction Control not working? You better get it to the dealer and get that fixed!! You do know that when the TC lite is ON, means the TC is disabled doncha?

Orrrrrr more than likely, you just being a dumbass - overdriving the on-ramp (lessee going a fair clip.. shifting from 3-4)?

The antihesis of that is exactly my point. We _must_ teach younger drivers (and remind ourselves) _not_ to bring dangerous elements into our comfort zone. Again, the point is that we _must_ be thinking all the time behind the wheel. _No_ compromises are permissible. As soon as we start justifying compromises, accidents happen.

I couldn't agree more. Interesting to note that one of our local politicians is going introduce a proposal that would make it a moving violation complete with points on your license if you're caught cutting in line.

It's the "under 30" way of thinking... Mom & Dad have taught them that no rule applies to them. There is no "right or wrong" in life unless a cop sees you do it. (ok,, if speeding 5 or 10 over the limit on dry open highway counts, then I'm guilty here..)

If they see someone waiting at stop sign for them to pass the intersection, they speed up till they're sure they won't pull out, then slow down to make them wait longer..

How about getting in the left lane of the interstate and doing 5 BELOW the speed limit to show that they "own" the road..

Turn signals? Their friends may label them as being "considerate" And we know that would be bad... They LIKE being called four letter words... even the dreaded "N" word.. but NEVER say they were being considerate.. how could they live THAT down...

Waiting till the last minute to change lanes and want it to be MY problem.. BUT.. IF you manage to figure how to use that turn signal, I'll adjust my speed to LET you over,, rather than block your path.. like some of these people..

Ok,, Let me change that age requirement... It's ALL ages,,,(except MINE!)... Chuck...

Of course it's due to me. I was driving. But "me" has driven Mustangs in every condition imaginable, consider myself to be as good a winter driver as there is (no accidents and I drive v8 Mustangs!) and "me" can still be surprised. I guess my assumption should simply be; "Drive as if the roads were iced-up and and there should be no problem."

Yes they are Kate. I was alluding to his statement of "going on an on-ramp"... when's the last time you shifted into 4th except leaving the on ramp?

I shifted from 3-4 during a straight line drive on a road. I didn't do it going on an onramp. Maybe I didn't word it properly? But with Bridgestone RE-71 racing tires, I did lap 928S in my 1993 LX 5.0. Fairly tight ramp, speed about 70mph. The tires lasted

1 month.

Umm.. you mean, shifting down? Or having to shift one more time before I hit the freeway. Generally I hit the end of the ramp in third, and fourth just as I hit the freeway. Giong like a sumbitch. I think it's fun! I'll prolly get torched for this but I like to hit those ramps hard and jump on. (traffic permitting of course) I try to see just how close I can get to breaking the sound barrier before I have to get in line with the rest of the cattle.

Ya know what Rich? I think it's great that you posted a heads up on this. Those that already knew about the salt dust poked you in the ribs a bit but I actually learned soemthing from it. I now know that it is something to look out for and I appreciate you sharing it with me. You never know, you may have saved my fat ass and lead foot from getting sideways someplace where I didn't want to.
