We appreciate the compliment.
** like the rest were... so we checked them ALL (20 mins) & set 'em to 0.054 & ** now it runs smooth as a baby's butt. Thanks all. It's amazing what a few thousandths of an inch gap wider on a plug or two will cause, isn't it? I've been known to purposely gap plugs .005 thousandths smaller than specs, just to be sure it will ignite reliably under any condition, even though I know that combustion won't be as complete as it could be. Everything is a tradeoff.
I'm off for a few days, and do plan to post photos of my 'secret socket' technique soon. I just got done installing a Goodyear Gatorback belt, and I can heartily recommend it: it's thinner, quieter and stickier than OEM's.

I can second that recommendation! They are great belts. Even still, the Slugstang is known to squeak it every now and again under WOT..
My belt never sqeals... I installed the revised belt tensioner.. old one would tear up belts after a while.
-Mike
What is this revised tensioner of which you speak?
Ford released a revised belt tensioner... had to pick it up from the local Ford dealership.. forgot how much it was... wasn't too bad. Got my regular mechanic to install it too. Part + install was under $175. Their labor rate is $65/hr.

Yes, I too must know of this. Do you have a part number and a price? When did this come to be, and how did you learn of it?

I don't have a part number, but I'll send him an email & he can retrieve it for me. I learned of it maybe 3-4 months ago now... and I discovered it because my belt would squeal often... not constantly, but often... and eventually it tore a couple ribs clean off.. didn't even realize it until I pulled the car into the shop to try to diagnose what the squealing was coming from... he called Randall Ford & asked if a revised belt tensioner was there... part #'s were different for mine & the one he was going to order & so he ordered it.. and sure enough it was different.. installed it,
*NO* belt problems at all now. I'll email him & see if he can grab the part # for me.-Mike
