The California Special (CS)!
And the decision to build a new version at this time makes sense. Some of the upcoming Shelby GT-500 trim pieces can be reused helping cut costs, and a CS new Mustang is likely to be lack any additional firepower than what the standard Mustang GT offers, so it won't take the performance spotlight of the new Shelby.
What's everyone else's opinion on a new California Special Mustang?

THE major thing that differentiated the GT/CS from the Shelby's when it came to cosmetics was that the Shelby COULD NOT come in a coupe and THE ONLY WAY to get a GT/CS was AS a coupe. HOW are they going to differentiate the new ones? It'll have to be more than just a stripe and the Shelby nose. Hardtop on a 'vert for a coupe look? They tried that and it flopped in '94, plus there would be NO headroom in the rear seats.
I'm betting that we'll see some High Country Specials then too, since the HCS came first and, along with ol' Shel's "Little Red", inspired the idea of the GT/CS 2 years prior. I'm sure that the Denver DSO will get involved one way or another. The HCS registrar and member's have been pushing local dealers to have a new HCS in '06 for its 40th Anniversary.
It will be interesting to see what they come up with, and will it sell nationally or as it did originally.
This idea was suggested to Ford officials by the MCA back in 1996, at the
20th MCA Anniversary Show in Atlanta at a special function during the show. I know the gentleman who suggested it, and I was there when he made the suggestion. Currently, he is the MCA National Head Judge for early models. Took Ford long enough to do consider the idea.------------- Laurie S. Thunder Snake #7
Stupid idea. When I think of "special" muscle cars from California, I think of what they were; More emission-controlled and lacking in power than other cars. Not a good association at all. Why not call it the Mustang EV for "Environmental Vehicle?"
