I need some help trying to figure out what is going on with my 1991 300ZX

Check your drive shaft for slop in the universal joints. Do you hear a clunk when you shift from forward to reverse? That's the only thing I can think off that would clunk in both directions.

can you find an empty car park, and get a mate to run along side while you crawl forward etc? - make sure the bonnet/hood won't fly off the stay (gaffer tape), at least then you might have some indication where to look - often things are much quieter inside.
